Should You Consider Investing/Buying Gold or Bitcoin?
Our trading partner Chris Vermeulen of The Technical Traders just put together this great article comparing Bitcoin against traditional commodities for investing and storing wealth....
Recently, we have been asked by a number of clients about the precious metals and what our advice would be with regards to buying, selling or holding physical or trading positions in the metals. There are really only a few short and simple answers to this question and they are revolve around the concept of providing a hedge against risk, capital preservation and opportunity for returns. Let’s explore the details a bit further.
First, Gold, historically, has been and will continue to be the basis of physical wealth for the foreseeable future. Currently, Gold and Silver are relatively low cost compared to other assets offering similar protection. As of right now, Gold and Silver are nearing the lowest price ratio levels, historically, that have existed since 1990. This means, the relationship of the price ratio for Gold and Silver are comparatively low in relationship to how Gold and Silver are priced in peak levels. So, right now is the time to be acquiring Gold and Silver as a low price hedge against another global crisis event or market meltdown.
People are starting to park their money in digital currencies, like Bitcoin and Ethereum, rather than parking them in fiat currencies – I buy and hold my currencies in this crypto wallet CoinBase. This is primarily due to the Negative Interest Rate Policy as well as Zero Interest Rate Policy of the Central Banks, which explains the sharp rise in the price of Bitcoin, this year.
Taking a look at this chart of the DOW Index shown in relative Gold Ounce price levels, we can see that every peak in this ratio above 15 or so has resulted in a dramatic ratio level reversion (decline). This reversion means that asset prices (the DOW price level) declined while the price of Gold rose or stayed relatively stable. The current level is well above 17 and any peak in this level should start the next rally in precious metals while global equities contract.
Second, the fact that the Gold and Silver price ratio is historically very low (meaning they provide a very good hedging opportunity at historically very low price ratio levels) also means that cash can be traded for physical gold with very limited risk and provide an excellent hedge for inflation, global market crisis events and as long term investments. Taking advantage of the current market conditions, one has to be aware that crisis events do exist and present a clear risk to future equity investments.
One could decide to risk further capital hedging with options or short positions as risk becomes more evident, but these are inherently more risky than a physical Gold or Silver investment. Physical Gold or Silver, especially rare coins which include greater intrinsic value, can provide real capital, real gains, real hedging of risk and real return – whereas the short positions or options are only valuable if the trade is executed to profit.

Physical Gold or Silver, especially rare coins which include greater intrinsic value, can provide real capital, real gains, real hedging of risk and real return – whereas the short positions or options are only valuable if the trade is executed to profit.
The relationship of the US Dollar to Gold is key to understanding precious metals valuations. As the US Dollar increases in value, this puts pressure on the price of Gold because most of the world operates in US Dollars and Gold is typically a hedge against risk and inflation. Therefore, as the US Dollar increases in value, there is a perceived view that risks and inflation are less of a threat to the global economy.
As this chart, below, shows, the US Dollar is currently settling within a FLAG formation that could result in downside price action – below recent support. When we consider the first chart, showing the price of Gold being historically very cheap and the ratio being above 17, we must assume that any downside price activity in Gold is a blessing right now because these levels have not been seen since 1999, 1965 or 1929. In other words, this is potentially a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for investors.
Lastly, Gold and Silver are very limited in supply on this planet and, unless society decides that Gold or Silver is absolutely worthless as a substance, will likely continue to increase in value. News that China and Russia are acquiring hundreds of tons of gold each year in preparation for a gold based currency is another set of reasons that you should consider starting your own physical hoard of precious metals.
The most important thing for you to understand about owning physical Gold and Silver is that it is a protective investment that can be liquidated or resold at almost any time in the future. It can be traded, held, secured and transported easily. You can physically take possession of your Gold and Silver and be assured that through any banking crisis, global market crisis or major global event, you have enough physical precious metal to operate in a crisis mode and likely attain great wealth/gains in the process.

You can physically take possession of your Gold and Silver and be assured that through any banking crisis, global market crisis or major global event, you have enough physical precious metal to operate in a crisis mode and likely attain great wealth/gains in the process.
Think of physical Gold and Silver like an “emergency kit”. You hope you never need it, but when you do need it, you had better be prepared and have set aside some physical holdings before the crisis event happened. Out here in California, we keep “Earthquake Kits” with emergency supplies, water, lanterns, food and other essentials. Well, guess what is included in my Earthquake Kit? Yup – Gold and Silver in proper quantities that I could barter and trade for items that are essential.
This final chart is the Gold to Silver ratio and is used to identify when price disparity between the two most common precious metals is opportunistic for one metal over the other. When the price of Gold is high compared to the price of Silver, this ratio will climb. When the price of Silver increases, because of perceived market risks, this ratio will decline. Currently, one can see that we are nearing a peak in this ratio chart – meaning that Silver is much cheaper, in relative terms, than gold. Because of this, investors should consider Silver and Gold as viable wealth protection.
Should another market crisis event unfold, both Silver and Gold will likely rally. This chart is telling us that Silver will likely rally by a larger percentage value than Gold to result in a decline in this ratio and resulting in closer “parity” between the valuations of these two precious metals. Again, currently, this is very close to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for investors.
Now is the time to consider building your “emergency kit” and to prepare for the next market crisis event. Our research team is ready to assist you and to keep you updated with Daily and Weekly update for all the major markets.

The Best eMini Short Cut EVER!
Here's the real reason why E-Minis are the secret money making weapon behind the greatest names in trading.
Let’s be honest, a lot of the “free” trading videos are a complete waste of time, with presenters blowing a bunch of hot air. Right?
A few folks offer some interesting info but most leave out all the good stuff.
Then there is my good friend and trading partner Todd Mitchell who put together this great video.
In his latest video Todd makes his theory on the eMinis unfair advantage perfectly clear.
1,000's of traders will see the video this morning with many people claiming his free material that is worth much more than other courses they’ve paid for.
That’s why I insist you watch this.
Great content. Simple strategies. Very interesting approach.

The Dollar and Manipulation Control the Market
Over the weekend I had an interesting conversation with a local trader. We typically meet a few times a year to share our market outlooks, new trading tools and techniques, and usually finish our session off in a debate about the US market manipulation and how to trade around it.
Talking about market manipulation always opens up a can of worms and sparks some interesting theories… And while everyone has their own views and opinion on this subject I thought I would briefly share the main points I pulled from our conversation.
I did talk about the dollar index last week, but the recent price action unfolding today is important so I’m going to recap on it again.
My Weekend Conversation Key Thoughts:
Point form thoughts supporting Lower Equity prices and a Higher Dollar:
- Dollar index looks ready for a major rally (high dollar means lower stocks)
- SP500 may have just formed a double top
- SP500 closed strongly below the 20 day moving average
- First week of May for the past two years have been intermediate market tops
Points supporting Higher Equity prices and a Lower Dollar:
Countries around the globe are trying to keep their currency value low including the United States.
Presidential cycle strongly favors higher stocks prices which means the dollar should not rally until Nov.
What do all these points mean? Let’s take a look at the dollar charts below…
4 Hour Dollar Index Chart:
This chart time frame allows us to see all intraday price action while being able to zoom out several months for patterns along with key support and resistance levels.
As you can see over the past few months the dollar has been consolidating sideways. Within this consolidation it has formed two bullish falling wedges with the most recent one breakout last week right on queue.
Using this 24 hour futures dollar index chart we can see where things are trading through the weekend. On Friday the dollar index closed around the 79.50 level. As you can see the dollar has surged Sunday night by more than half a penny breaking through its down trend line.
The next few weeks will continue to be exciting ones as strong moves in the dollar will create wild movements in stocks and commodities.
Long Term Weekly Dollar Index Chart:
If you zoom WAY OUT using the weekly chart this shows you the two major areas where the dollar index is likely to reach come November. Also with these levels are my SP500 price points which are simply numbers I pulled from the charts using basic analysis. I say this because I’m not into long term forecasting but rather shorter term price movements. A lot can change between now and then.
So, if the dollar index rallies to the 86 – 88 level then I would expect the SP500 to be trading back down at the 1000 level. If this takes place, the Fed will likely issue QE3 to jam the dollar back down and boost equities.
The flip side of the coin is that the dollar rolls over here and gets pulled down. This will boost stock prices in favor for the president’s election. After that the dollar would likely rally which in turn would put a major top in the stock market, kick starting a bear market.
The big question…
Do you short the market in anticipation of rising dollar and falling stock prices? OR do you buck the trend and stick with the theory of a lower dollar value and presidential cycle?
The charts above clearly show how we are entering a major tipping point for the market and the next couple months are likely going to provide some big price swings for stocks, commodities and currencies.

U.S. Dollar Trend Continues Lower.....Time to be Careful Though
The dollar continues to get sold at a tremendous rate and the Fed is devaluing the currency as quickly as they can trying and save the world one dollar at a time…
The trend is strongly down but it’s starting to near a point where we should start to keep a closer eye on it for signs of a reversal to the upside. When the dollar makes a move higher and starts a rally it will put downward pressure on stocks and commodities. We must be prepared to move our protective stops ups and possibly take advantage of falling prices in the near future. Until then remain long equities and commodities.

Are Stocks & Commodities About To Start Another Rally?
Over the past couple months everyone seems to have been preparing for a sharp market correction. Crazy part is that the SP500 dropped about 10% from the high and that is a typical bull market correction. The thing is… the stock market has a way of slowly unfolding making it look and feel minor, then before you know it, the correction is over and it’s back to an uptrend. That is kind of how this one unfolded.
The good news is that we caught the low risk portion of the correction locking in a 4.5% drop, and we are now in a long trade and in the money by 2.5% with very little down side risk at this point. Time will tell if this up trend is sustainable or not…
Now, let’s take a look at the charts…
Dollar 60 minute intraday chart
As you can see below the dollar looks to have started a breakdown today. If there is continued selling pressure in the next couple days then expect to stocks and commodities to move higher as the US Dollar drops. It is important to know that when a bullish pattern fails we typically see a very strong reaction in the opposite direction (down) catching the majority off guard and they rush to the door.

SPY Broad Market ETF – Daily Chart
A couple weeks ago we watched the market go into a free fall creating a washout bottom. From there we saw prices bounce back and retake my key moving averages. This gave us a bullish bias and dips should be looked at as buying opportunities. I will admit that stocks still have a long way to go before the masses are convinced. I feel we need to see the February and March highs get taken out first. Once they get taken out there should be strong buying as short covering (protective stops from traders who are short) causes a surge in buying pressure sending stocks sharply higher yet again.

My trading buddy David Banister at Active Trading Partners is starting to see small cap stocks come back to life. Money is starting to flow into these lucrative areas of the market and he is on top of things… This week’s trade is up 20% in less than 24 hours which is very exciting.
Gold Daily Chart
Gold has been moving up this year but the current price action is not really getting me excited to buy just yet. Recently we have seen strong selling volume and very light buying volume. My bias still favors higher prices but there is still a good chance we get another dip in the coming sessions.

Mid-Week Trading Conclusion:
In short, I feel as though the dollar will trigger the next wave of buying in stocks and commodities for the next week or two… We should see the dollar make a clean moving in either direction shortly and that will help guide my analysis, positions and setups. I hope this analysis helps you to see the market from a different perspective.
